Fireworks

We ventured out to see fireworks last night and they were all MonkeyBoy could talk about today. He describes them as “Fireworks! Boom!! Scary! They scare you! Mommy scared! Aiieeee!” That scream is thanks to some fireworks we saw while in Hawaii, at the end of a Polynesian show. I wasn’t prepared for the fireworks to start as soon as they did, and I let out a little squeal. That freaked out MonkeyBoy, who then screamed himself, covered his ears, and refused to leave my side for the rest of the night, despite many assurances that we were all okay and Mommy was just startled and not really scared. He doesn’t quite get the difference in the two concepts.

Here’s a shot of the fireworks from the beach.

On the way to the Fourth of July celebration, I used my camera to record MonkeyBoy’s impression of what we were headed off to see. You can hear him describe what he thinks the fireworks will look like and what he thinks about them. He also takes a few moments to do some backseat driving and describes things he sees (or thinks he sees) out the windows.

So, last night MonkeyBoy was a little hesitant to watch the fireworks and sat on my lap with his hands over his ears and his elbows over his eyes for the first half of the show. He later crawled out of my lap into MonkeyMan’s and cheered for the grand finale. Maybe he was cheering that they were finally over?

I had a little too much fun playing with the fireworks setting of my camera. Here are some of my favorites.

  1. Great video! And nice fireworks photos too! Here they don’t start city fireworks until 10:30 because it stays light so late. Therefore I have yet to take my little ones to a show. :( Maybe next year…

  2. graet fireworks shots!! we’ve tried to take some before and they never really came out that great.
