Zippin’

I downloaded pictures from my point and shoot camera today and just have to share more. Expect a week of Alaska-related posts as I go through our adventures.

We traveled with my parents as well as my brother and his family. My brother married a woman with three teenagers, and they all decided that MonkeyMan and I should take the teens ziplining while my brother went off to ride Harleys. I wasn’t sure about this since I’m not all that fond of heights anymore and I’d hurt my arm bad enough to go to an emergency room a few days before we left on our trip, but being a good sport (and not wanting to be left out of the fun if MonkeyMan went as sole chaperone) we headed off for ziplining in the rainforest at our first port stop of Ketchikan. We ascended onto platforms and proceeded to spend the next two hours flying from tree to tree, interspersed with a few wiggly suspension bridges 200 feet in the air.

I managed to forget how to brake on our second zip and body slammed the nice gentleman in the yellow hat. I didn’t forget how to brake after that. We completed our adventure by rappelling down a tree and I was pleased that I didn’t let go of the rope like I did the last time I rappelled. We were awarded with medals once we were all successfully on the ground.

MonkeyBoy spent time with my parents while we were swinging from tree to tree. He had more ‘nocular time, a little shopping, and time in the playroom.

Remember how I mentioned my parents’ swanky ship digs? I found a picture I took on the way back to the boat in Skagway. See the two little waving figures on the right deck directly below the bridge? Yep, that’s their balcony.
