Flying Barrel Of Monkeys

All day today MonkeyBoy has been talking about how he’s a big boy, and he didn’t need his binkie anymore, and how he wanted to take it to the mall to trade it in for toys. After several hours of this, we decided to go ahead and support his decision and take him to the mall. But we had to make several stops first and by the time we got to the mall, he was no longer interested in focusing on shopping at the “binkie puppy” store (Build-a-Bear) and he was cranky and whiny. So we left without doing the trade. I put the binkies he’d packed for the exchange in my purse when he wasn’t looking and on the way home, MonkeyBoy remembered that he had brought binkies along and tried to find them in the bag he had stored them in for the car ride to the mall. When he couldn’t find them, he let out a pathetic “I lost my binkies!” whine. Being the mean mommy I am, I decided this was a wonderful opportunity and agreed that they were “lost”. At bedtime, It took about an hour to get him to calm down enough that he fell asleep, but he’s successfully been down for a few hours binkie-free this evening. Here’s hoping it’s a smoother transition than the last time we tried this.

And since a post is better with pictures, here’s a picture of my little shopper taken on Friday. He insisted on carrying the bags himself.
