A nap!

It happens so very rarely around here, that a nap warrants a blog post. I slept for ninety minutes and MonkeyBoy slept two and a half hours! It wasn’t easy getting those naps, however. MonkeyBoy was in a foul mood when I received him in our parking lot switcheroo this morning. I wasn’t feeling great myself and decided to forgo our gym trip and even gave up plan B of grocery shopping, in exchange for a straight trip home. We played with his toys, made English muffin pizzas and fruit popsicles and then tried a nap. MonkeyBoy kicked and screamed and was so upset. I was starting to feel worse (virus? alllergies? who knows?) and just couldn’t take the screaming and crying anymore. So I scooped him up and we both sat and cried in the rocking chair until he fell asleep in my arms. I put him in his bed and crawled into my own. We both woke up a lot happier. I know he still needs a nap every day and I just wish he wouldn’t fight sleep so much. Why can’t he realize how much he’ll miss napping when he’s older?

Oh, and those pizzas we made… I made mine with pepperoni. He doesn’t like pepperoni, but insisted on putting it on his pizza as he made it. I said, “I didn’t think you liked that” and he responded, “Yes, I want peppy-ornery”. Well, when the pizzas were done and plated, the first thing he said was “I don’t like peppy-ornery. Why did you put it there?” When I reminded him that he had made his own pizza he responded with a raised hand and “No! Stop! Don’t say that!”. The attitude starts early, doesn’t it? And I think it’s fitting that he calls the topping “ornery”.

  1. Naps are great when they happen! I’m so glad you are both feeling better. I remember Monkeyman when he was that age, Monkeyboy sounds like a clone. Monkeyman rarely took a nap. I would put him on the floor in front of the best TV cartoons or Sesame Street and hope he would take a nap and I would find relief from his constant activity and talking. He was never a good sleeper like his brother and sister. I assumed it was just my inexperience but it’s probably genetic…

  2. yay for naps! too funny that he got an attitude about the pizza. :) Ava has already started learning how to throw a tantrum too… it’s way too early for this!
