Cast Removal

Today I took MonkeyBoy for his follow-up leg appointment and he is officially cast free. He wasn’t too thrilled with the “scary vacuum” that they used to saw the cast off, but he was very brave and let me snap a few pictures.

I also rewarded his bravery this afternoon with a new [...]

Snack time again

It is our week again for snacks at school. MonkeyBoy only has school once this week, since Thursday is a religious holiday, so I only had to come up with one snack instead of two. I took the easy route and made “cracker carrots”. I think I completed them all in under [...]

Cakes and crafts

This weekend was filled with cakes and present making.
I made a smash cake (little cake just for the birthday child) earlier this week for a friend’s little one’s first birthday photo session and then I repeated the cake later in the week for his birthday. I also made some coordinating cupcakes.

Then for [...]

Rodeo

Today in the hours between work and the retirement party fiasco, we had a wonderful time at the rodeo. I’d been wanting to go for about 12 years and finally made it this year. Today was “Dress like a Farmer Day” where you got free admission if you wore overalls. No problem [...]

Mortified Motherhood

One of my co-workers had her retirement party this afternoon. MonkeyBoy and I headed to the party with promises of cake to keep him in line. He happily socialized a bit and then pulled up a chair at the table closest to the snack line. I piled high plates of his favorites [...]

Ridin’ the Rails

After numerous delays, our city’s light rail finally debuted today. I let MonkeyBoy skip his afternoon nap (yes, he finally has started napping at an age where most kids are giving them up ), and we headed to a rail station about three stops from the end of the line. He got the [...]

Good Citizen

MonkeyBoy is learning how to perform his civic duties. Earlier this month, he helped me vote in the primaries. He likes getting his “I voted!” sticker to wear.

Then this week, he helped me to fill out the census paperwork. I can remember being so excited about the 1990 Census and hoping that [...]

Swinging St. Paddy’s Day

Go fly a kite!

It was a beautiful day today with blue skies and temperatures in the 80s. A perfect day for braving the crowds and participating in the local kite festival.

Every kite festival needs a kite eating tree. Lukily, MonkeyBoy and MonkeyMan were expert kite fliers and our kite avoided becoming a snack.

Decorating Cake

A friend asked me to make a cake for a twin baby shower so this morning I was busy baking up a storm. For once I was done ahead of schedule and able to clean up my mess myself rather than leave it for MonkeyMan to do.
MonkeyBoy was wanting to help, so as I [...]
