I don’t know if we’ll ever be able to top this year’s costume for MonkeyBoy.

He’s become slightly obsessed with a fan mashup video on YouTube that combines Thomas the Tank Engine and Transformers. He’s been saying that he wants to be “OpThomas Prime” for Halloween for over a month now, so it was up to MonkeyMan and I to bring his vision to life.

I think we nailed it.

Pumpkin Patch 2011

We made an afternoon trip to the Pumpkin Patch today. Neither was very interested in having his picture taken. The big one wanted to run around and the little one wanted to eat leaves.

Easter 2011

We had a fun-filled Easter weekend. The boys are asleep and I’m about to head to bed myself.

First up, I made a Peep wreath at crafting night.

MonkeyBoy had his first experience dyeing Easter Eggs. He tried to bite into them shell and all, and then happily ate a shelled one until he got to the yolk at which point he made a face and declared it “yucky”.

MonkeyBoyToo modeled the Easter Bunny suit.

We finished the weekend with a fabulous Easter dinner of grilled ribs, cole slaw, bread, salad, baked beans, and flourless chocolate cake. Yum!

Easter Bunny 2011

We went to visit the Easter Bunny today and then the boys participated in an Easter Egg hunt. MonkeyBoyToo scored one egg while MonkeyBoy found a dozen or so. Hunts at this age consist of a roped off area where eggs are scattered all over the ground and the kids start searching on the count of three. While the other kids in his age group stopped at the very first eggs they saw, MonkeyBoy headed right into the middle of the hunt area and scooped up as many as he could grab before the other kids made their way in from the periphery. Pretty clever strategy for a four year old. Earlier when we were packing the car for our outing he saw me grabbing his Easter basket and asked why we were taking it. I told him it was so that he would have a place to put the eggs he found. His response “I have hands!” in the “gee Mom is so dumb” tone that I’m sure I’ll hear a lot of in the coming years. In the end, he was happy that he had the basket and didn’t have to hold all the eggs he gathered.

Christmas Christening

MonkeyBoyToo was baptized the Sunday after Christmas since most of the family was here for the holiday. He wore the same Christening gown that MonkeyBoy wore at his baptism – my mom and I made it out of fabric cut from the train of my wedding dress.

Since it was the holiday season, I couldn’t resist setting MonkeyBoyToo in the manger for a quick picture.

How many?

Last night we went on our annual trek to the tree farm to chop down our Christmas tree. Every year I try (and fail) to get a picture of MonkeyBoy in front of their tree ruler. I have wanted to have his picture there each year and thought it would be fun to be able to see how he grows from year to year. But he never wants to oblige me. This year I tried a new tactic. He loves numbers, counting, and knowing “how many”. So I asked him to stand in front of the ruler so that I could see “how many” he was. But, alas, the little boy is too smart for me. He just raised up his fingers to show me he was four (his age) as he ran past. I guess he already knew “how many” he was and didn’t need a ruler to verify anything for him.

It was too cold to prop MonkeyBoyToo up against the ruler, but maybe next year he’ll let me snap some pictures.
